Chennai, 29 Oct (H.S.): Proposals for new industrial ventures and a review of Tamil Nadu’s development programmes are expected to dominate Thursday’s Cabinet meeting, to be chaired by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay at the Secretariat.

The deliberations will focus on investment proposals awaiting approval, departmental performance and administrative measures needed to carry forward the government’s announced schemes.

This will be the third Cabinet meeting since the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government assumed office following its Assembly election victory. Ministers are expected to assess the implementation of initiatives introduced by the administration.

A key item likely to receive attention is “Vetri Tamil Nadu”, the government’s long-term development programme. Discussions are expected to examine the progress of projects under the initiative and the steps required to meet its stated objectives.

The review is also likely to cover activities undertaken by departments involved in the programme, providing an opportunity to assess implementation and identify matters requiring Cabinet-level decisions.

Alongside the development agenda, the Cabinet may discuss objections raised by fishing communities to the proposed establishment of the government’s administrative headquarters at Pattinapakkam, sources said.

The proposal has drawn opposition from fishermen concerned about the choice of location. However, there was no confirmation ahead of the meeting that the issue had been formally included in the agenda or that ministers would take a decision.

The industrial proposals will be watched for possible approvals, with details of the ventures and associated investment commitments expected to emerge only through subsequent government announcements.

Thursday’s meeting comes as the administration seeks to advance its programmes while reviewing the functioning of government departments.

The outcome will indicate which proposals have secured approval and what further action departments will be required to undertake. Until an official announcement, the anticipated subjects of discussion should not be treated as decisions taken by the Cabinet.
