New Delhi, 22 October (H.S.): India and Poland have agreed to strengthen cooperation in strategic sectors, including defence, space and nuclear energy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday. He also invited Polish companies to partner with India in the co-development and co-production of technologies and capabilities in these fields.

PM Modi held talks with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk at Hyderabad House in New Delhi on Thursday. Following their discussions, the two leaders delivered a joint press statement, outlining key areas of bilateral cooperation.

The Indian prime minister said the free trade agreement between India and the European Union had broadened opportunities for economic cooperation and opened up new avenues for closer engagement between the two countries.

Welcoming Tusk to India, PM Modi recalled that the two countries had elevated their bilateral ties to the level of a strategic partnership during his visit to Poland in 2024. Building on this strong foundation, the partnership had gained fresh momentum over the past two years, he said. India’s growing economic strength had also created new possibilities for expanding cooperation between the two countries.

PM Modi emphasised that India-Poland relations extended beyond diplomatic engagement, drawing strength from a shared legacy of humanity and compassion. During the Second World War, the royal families of Jamnagar and Kolhapur had provided refuge in India to thousands of Polish children and families. He described cultural exchanges and people-to-people connections as among the greatest strengths of the bilateral relationship.

The prime minister also highlighted Poland’s rich tradition of Sanskrit studies and Indology. The establishment of a chair for Indian studies in the city of Kraków, he noted, represented another effort to deepen the cultural bonds between the two nations.

PM Modi further observed that India and Poland shared a commitment to democratic values and the rule of law. Both countries, he said, recognised the need to reform global governance institutions to make them more effective, capable and responsive to contemporary challenges.

Referring to the situations in Ukraine and West Asia,PM Modi reiterated that India would continue to support every meaningful effort aimed at achieving peace.
