Hooghly, 02 October (H.S.): BJP and Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) leaders targeted Serampore Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee during the Yuva Garjan Sabha organised by the BJYM at Serampore Court Maidan on Friday.

Several BJP leaders launched sharp verbal attacks against Banerjee during the programme. While criticising the Serampore MP, some speakers used derogatory terms such as “uncivilised,” “uneducated” and “drunkard” against him. Opposition to Banerjee remained one of the key themes of the programme.

From the stage, BJYM workers were also urged to raise the “Jai Shri Ram” slogan in front of Kalyan Banerjee.

Among those present at the programme were Shashi Singh, president of the BJP Serampore organisational district; Gautam Chakraborty, president of the BJP Hooghly organisational district; West Bengal ministers Bhaskar Bhattacharya of the Public Health Engineering and Labour departments, Sumana Sarkar of the Health department, and Indranil Khan of the Sports department; BJP MP Soumitra Khan; senior BJP leader Krishna Bhattacharya; state BJP leader Kabir Shankar Bose; BJP MLA Dilip Singh; and party leaders Dipanjan Chakraborty, Dipanjan Guha and Prasenjit Bag, among others.

During the meeting, BJP leaders also called upon party workers to strengthen the organisation in the Serampore area and prepare for upcoming political activities.

Till the time of filing this report, no reaction had been received from Kalyan Banerjee or the Mamata Trinamool Congress regarding the remarks made at the programme.
