Guwahati, 02 October (HS): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday congratulated star boxer Lovlina Borgohain for winning the gold medal in the 75-kg category at the Asian Games being held in Japan.

Hailing Lovlina as the “Golden Girl”, Sarma expressed happiness over her achievement and said that her victory had once again made the Indian tricolour fly high on the international stage.

In a social media post, the Chief Minister said Lovlina displayed confidence, unwavering spirit and determination to secure the gold medal for the country. He noted that the Assam boxer had made the occasion even more special by winning the coveted medal on her birthday.

“Assam is proud of you today and India is proud of you. Heartiest congratulations on this glorious victory,” Sarma said.

He added that Lovlina’s achievement would be remembered as a golden chapter in the history of Indian boxing.

Lovlina is also celebrating her birthday on Friday. The Chief Minister had extended birthday greetings to her earlier in the morning. A day earlier, her parents had expressed hope that she would win the gold medal and give herself the biggest birthday gift.

The news of Lovlina’s victory sparked celebrations across Assam, with sports enthusiasts and people from various sections congratulating the boxer on her achievement.------------
