New Delhi, 10 October (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, and several other political leaders on Saturday extended their heartfelt greetings to the people on the auspicious occasion of Mahalaya.
In a post on X, Prime Minister Modi invoked the blessings of Goddess Durga on the sacred occasion. “On this auspicious occasion, we seek the blessings of Maa Durga. May her divine blessings fill our society with happiness, compassion and hope. May peace and prosperity prevail everywhere,” he wrote.
Amit Shah prayed that the blessings of Maa Durga would fill every life with boundless joy, happiness, prosperity and well-being. He noted that Mahalaya marks the transition from Pitru Paksha, the fortnight dedicated to paying homage to ancestors, to Devi Paksha, the period associated with the worship of the Goddess. On this occasion, the message of Maa Durga’s arrival resonates among devotees. He expressed hope that her blessings would bring immense joy, happiness and prosperity to everyone.
Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda also extended his greetings, expressing hope that the blessings of Maa Durga would always remain upon the people and bring happiness, good health and prosperity into their lives. “Shubho Mahalaya!” he conveyed.
Mahalaya holds immense religious and cultural significance in Sanatan Dharma, particularly among the Bengali community. Observed on the new moon day (Amavasya) of the Hindu month of Ashwin, it marks the conclusion of Pitru Paksha and the beginning of Devi Paksha, heralding the arrival of Goddess Durga and the commencement of the festive season associated with Durga Puja.
