New Delhi, 08 January (H.S.): North India remains gripped by severe cold and dense fog on Thursday, severely disrupting rail and air travel across the region. In the national capital, thick fog has caused multiple flight delays and operational chaos at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport.

Operations at IGI Airport faced significant hindrance Wednesday morning due to impenetrable fog, with visibility dropping below 50 meters. Authorities cancelled seven flights outright, while over 100 international and domestic flights departed hours late, complicating pilots' takeoffs and landings.

Several major trains bound for Delhi from various states across the country ran hours behind schedule, leaving passengers stranded and frustrated. Among cancellations, Indigo's Delhi-Amritsar flight 6E-5103 was axed, as were SpiceJet's Delhi-Varanasi SG-8718 and Delhi-Srinagar SG-661.

Air India Express's Delhi-Amritsar IX-1683 and Air India's Delhi-Guwahati IX-1030 also faced suspension, with additional flights operating belatedly.

Indigo issued a travel advisory on X for passengers, warning of potential disruptions due to low visibility and fog in Prayagraj.

The airline affirmed close weather monitoring, pledging every effort to ensure safe, seamless journeys to destinations. Passengers were urged to track flight status via the website or app, with assurances that teams stand ready to assist at every step.

Optimism prevailed for clearing skies and a swift return to normal schedules, expressing gratitude for travelers' patience and understanding.
