New Delhi, 08 January (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi invoked divine grace from Shri Somnath Mahadev on Thursday to mark the commencement of Somnath Swabhiman Parv, sharing a timeless Sanskrit shloka from the Dwadash Jyotirlinga Stotra via X.
In his post, PM Modi wrote: श्री सोमनाथ महादेव की कृपा और आशीर्वाद से सबका कल्याण हो। Accompanying this invocation, he shared the profound verse:
सौराष्ट्रदेशे विशदेऽतिरम्ये ज्योतिर्मयं चन्द्रकलावतंसम्।
भक्तिप्रदानाय कृपावतीर्णं तं सोमनाथं शरणं प्रपद्ये॥This shloka extols the glory of Somnath Jyotirlinga, the first among the twelve, portraying it as residing in Saurashtra's pristine, supremely enchanting realm—radiant with divine light, adorned by the moon as a crest jewel, and descended through compassion to bestow unwavering devotion upon the faithful.
Notably, Somnath holds primacy among the Dwadash Jyotirlingas, embodying eternal resilience after surviving invasions since 1026 AD, with 2026 marking a millennium of unbroken faith alongside the 75th anniversary of its 1951 reconstruction.
PM Modi's gesture underscores the parv's theme of cultural fortitude, inviting national reflection on this sacred site's enduring legacy.
