Chennai, 07 January (H.S.) : Senior Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader TKS Elangovan on Wednesday criticized the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) for its decision to join the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Tamil Nadu.
Speaking to reporters in Chennai, Elangovan asserted that the PMK had no other alternative but to align with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) bloc.
He claimed that while the DMK stands firmly with the people of Tamil Nadu, other political entities in the opposition alliance are working against the interests of the state residents.
The political development follows an official announcement by AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami regarding the inclusion of the PMK into their electoral front. According to the version of authority from the opposition, PMK President Anbumani Ramadoss met with Palaniswami to formalize the partnership.
Palaniswami described the emerging coalition as a victory alliance and suggested that more parties might join the NDA in the coming days to strengthen their position for the 2026 Assembly elections. However, the ruling DMK remains confident in its track record and its performance in the recent 2024 parliamentary polls.
Elangovan’s remarks highlight the intensifying rivalry as the state prepares for a significant electoral battle in the first half of the year. The DMK maintains that its commitment to the local welfare remains its primary strength, contrasting itself with what it describes as a desperate coalition formed by its opponents.
This exchange underscores the high stakes and shifting dynamics currently shaping the political landscape of Tamil Nadu.
