New Delhi, 04 January (HS): Dense fog enveloped the national capital on Sunday, leading to delays in flights and rail services, causing inconvenience to passengers travelling to and from Delhi.
According to Northern Railway officials, around 74 trains were affected due to poor visibility, with several services running hours behind schedule. The situation is being continuously monitored, authorities said.
The city recorded a minimum temperature of 7.4 degrees Celsius, while air quality remained in the ‘poor’ category. The weather department has forecast cold wave conditions at isolated places in Delhi till January 6, with the maximum temperature expected to hover around 17 degrees Celsius.
Railway stations across the capital witnessed multiple delays, including at Hazrat Nizamuddin, Anand Vihar and New Delhi railway stations, where several long-distance and premium trains were running one to four hours late due to foggy conditions.
Air services were also impacted, with several flights delayed and some cancelled because of low visibility. The Airports Authority of India issued an advisory urging passengers to check flight status, allow additional buffer time and follow instructions from airlines and airport authorities.
Meanwhile, dense fog and cold wave conditions continued to disrupt normal life across large parts of north, central and eastern India, affecting road, rail and air transport in several states.
