Kolkata, 22 January (H.S.) : The back-to-back visits of Bharatiya Janata Party’s newly elected national president Nitin Nabin and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to West Bengal later this month will be devoted entirely to internal organisational meetings, with a focus on strategy for the Assembly elections scheduled in the state later this year.
According to a member of the BJP’s West Bengal state committee, neither leader will hold any public rallies or roadshows during their respective visits. “There will be no public programmes this month. The Union Home Minister in particular will concentrate exclusively on closed-door organisational meetings. The discussions will centre on election strategy and key state-specific issues ahead of the Assembly polls,” the leader said.
Nitin Nabin is scheduled to arrive in Kolkata on January 27 for a two-day visit. On the first day, he will hold a closed-door meeting with the BJP’s top state leadership. The following day, he is slated to attend a programme in Burdwan in East Burdwan district, although details of that engagement are yet to be announced. He will return to New Delhi the same evening.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will undertake a one-day visit on January 30. Like Nabin, Shah’s itinerary will remain confined to organisational meetings, and he will not address any public rally or participate in a roadshow during his visit.
The state committee member added that the dates for the West Bengal Assembly elections are likely to be announced by the end of February or in early March. “Before the election schedule is declared, both the party’s national president and the Union Home Minister are focusing on internal consultations to finalise the party’s electoral strategy,” he said.
It may be recalled that Amit Shah had also visited West Bengal last month, during which he similarly avoided public rallies and roadshows. His only public engagement during that visit was a press conference.
