Kolkata, 22 January (H.S.) : Technical glitches in Kolkata Metro, often described as the city’s lifeline, are increasingly becoming a matter of concern. On Thursday morning, services on the Blue Line were disrupted, causing significant inconvenience to thousands of commuters during peak hours.
Between 7:35 am and 8:17 am, uninterrupted metro services were unavailable on the Blue Line. During this period, trains operated only on two isolated stretches — from Maidan to Dakshineswar and from Mahanayak Uttam Kumar to Shahid Khudiram.
In an official statement, the Metro’s Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) said that unscheduled maintenance work had to be undertaken between Rabindra Sadan and Netaji Bhavan stations, leading to partial operation of services on the line.
The disruption early in the day triggered widespread dissatisfaction among passengers. Many commuters complained that problems on the Blue Line have become frequent. A large number of school students, including children travelling alone, depend on metro services during morning hours. The disruption caused considerable hardship to them.
With metro services unavailable on the full stretch, several commuters were forced to rely on buses and other alternative modes of transport, resulting in delays in reaching offices and schools. Metro officials said that it would take some time before services are fully normalised.
