Mathura,
22 Jan (HS): More than 60 people narrowly escaped after a double-decker bus
caught fire on the Yamuna Expressway here Thursday morning, according to
officials. The incident happened about 5.30 a.m. near milestone 110 on the
Agra-Noida expressway in the Raya region. According to Fire Station Second
Officer (FSSO) Kishan Lal, the bus (UP 90 AT 8837) traveling from Banda to Delhi
caught fire after the back tyre brake jammed. Four fire trucks were dispatched,
and it took somewhat more than an hour to extinguish the fire, he added, adding
that the driver escaped. There were no injuries, and the passengers were later
transported to their destinations via alternate means, according to
authorities.
The
tragedy occurred little over a month after a severe disaster on the Yamuna
Expressway in Mathura, which killed 19 people. On December 16, 2025, eight
buses and two smaller vehicles collided, resulting in a large fire that burnt
some people beyond recognition and necessitated DNA testing for identification.
