Lucknow,

17 Jan (HS): All illegal shrines built on the campus of King George's Medical

University (KGMU) will be removed. The KGMU administration will soon begin

action to this effect. KGMU spokesperson Dr. K.K. Singh said that several

shrines have already been removed. The remaining ones will also be removed as

per the rules. The shrine built behind the KGMU Eye Department will be shifted

to one side so that construction work can be carried out on the vacant land.

The

shrines are located at these locations within KGMU: A shrine occupies a 20,000

square foot area behind the Ophthalmology Department of KGMU. In April 2025, a

team that went to remove encroachments was attacked. The police demolished the

shops built there, but the shrine remains. A shrine is also located on the

right side of the KGMU Trauma Center. Additionally, the shrine of Pir-e-Murshid

Haji Harmain Shah is located on the Queen Mary campus. This shrine is located

to the right of the Queen Mary gate. The entire shrine complex is quite large.

The Urs is also organized here by the Itezamia Committee. Similarly, between

the New OPD Building and the New Dental Building, there is the shrine of Dargah

Hazrat Makhdoom Shah Mina Shah. Shops are also set up within the shrine's

premises. The inner premises are also sensitive. A shrine also exists near

KGMU's RLC Building in Daliganj. An administration team once came to remove

this shrine, but due to the lax attitude of the KGMU administration, the shrine

was not removed. Similarly, there is a shrine near the OPD building of the

Pulmonary Critical Care Medicine Department at KGMU.

VHP

demanded the removal of the shrines: After the Love Jihad incident at KGMU came

to light, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad demanded the removal of the illegal shrines

on the KGMU campus. Dr. Rameez has been jailed in the Love Jihad case. The

provincial organization minister stated that the VHP was the first to highlight

the issue of Love Jihad at KGMU and took action. In the future, the VHP, with

the cooperation of the government administration, will work to remove these

shrines as well.
