New Delhi, 12 January (H.S.): Actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay appeared before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) at its headquarters here on Monday.Questioning commenced immediately in connection with the tragic stampede during a TVK election campaign event in Tamil Nadu's Karur district on September 27, 2025, which claimed 41 lives and injured dozens more.
A large contingent of Vijay's supporters gathered outside the CBI office from early morning, brandishing TVK flags and chanting slogans in solidarity with their leader. The gathering underscored the actor-politician's strong fan base amid the high-profile probe, which the Supreme Court transferred to the CBI for impartial scrutiny.
The CBI issued a notice to Vijay earlier this month under Section 179 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which empowers police to summon witnesses for examination, originally scheduling his appearance for January 6.
This session marks a key development in the investigation, following prior interrogations of TVK officials, local authorities, and forensic analysis of the campaign bus involved.
