
Bankura, 01 January (H.S.): On New Year's Eve, an out-of-control Bolero collided with an e-rickshaw and then ran over a pedestrian in Bhairavpur village under Gangajalghati police station in Bankura district of West Bengal. Two people died on the spot in the accident. After the incident, the accused driver abandoned the vehicle and fled.
The accident sparked widespread tension in the area. Angry locals blocked National Highway 60 for a considerable time, leading to long queues of vehicles on both sides of the road and bringing traffic to a complete standstill.
On information, police officers arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control. The police are investigating the cause of the accident. Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver lost control of the vehicle due to dense fog, resulting in the accident. A search has also been launched for the absconding driver.
The deceased have been identified as pedestrian Kuran Ghosh and auto-rickshaw driver Somnath. According to local sources, a Bolero vehicle was speeding along National Highway 60 towards Bankura. At the same time, Somnath was driving his e-rickshaw ahead. The Bolero hit with the auto-rickshaw. Local residents alleged that after hitting the e-rickshaw, the Bolero driver lost control and ran over Kuran Ghosh, who was walking along the side of the road.
Following the accident, local residents rushed to the scene and began rescue efforts. The two seriously injured individuals were taken to Amarkanan Hospital by locals, where doctors declared them dead.
The police are currently investigating the entire incident and searching for the absconding Bolero driver.
