Imphal (Manipur), 07 August (HS): The Election Commission of India has appointed Shailesh Kumar Chaurasia as the new Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Manipur. An IAS officer of the 2007 batch from the Manipur cadre, Chaurasia is set to take charge with immediate effect from August 6, 2025, the date of issuance of the official notification.

This appointment has been made under the powers vested by the Representation of the People Act, 1950, and in consultation with the Manipur government, which is currently under President’s Rule.

As CEO, Chaurasia will be responsible for overseeing all election-related activities in the state and ensuring the smooth and fair conduct of the democratic process.

In accordance with the terms of his appointment, he must resign from all other positions currently held in the Manipur government. The notification also specifies that apart from his role as CEO, he may only hold the post of Secretary in charge of the Election Department.

The Election Commission has underscored the need for this administrative separation to uphold the integrity and independence of the electoral process in Manipur.
