Guwahati (Assam), 22 August (HS): A suspected thief was lynched to death by locals in Amingaon after he allegedly attempted to steal a scooter in front of a shop at Agiyathuri.

According to eyewitnesses, the man, believed to be around 40 years old, was caught red-handed while trying to commit the theft. The situation quickly escalated as a crowd gathered, leading to a violent assault that resulted in his death on the spot.

Police said on Friday that the identity of the deceased is yet to be established. Meanwhile, the North Guwahati police have detained several individuals for interrogation in connection with the incident.
