Guwahati, 22 August (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has taken a “bold and historic stand” to protect the political supremacy of the indigenous people of Assam, the BJP said on Friday.
Addressing a press conference at the State BJP Headquarters, party spokesperson Suranjan Dutta alleged that “foreign elements” have attempted to infiltrate Assam’s socio-political life with an “aggressive mindset of inter-community political migration.” He said such groups, refusing to assimilate into Assam’s shared culture, are “threatening the language, traditions and spiritual institutions of the indigenous people.”
“Assam shall never tolerate such aliens. An expansive wave of social resistance will rise against them across both the Brahmaputra and Barak Valleys,” Dutta asserted.
He further added that these “so-called strangers” have encroached on forest land, satra land and government property, sowing “anarchy into Assamese society.” According to him, this posed a grave threat to the state’s political future and cultural identity.
It may be recalled that CM Sarma had earlier remarked that the families of such infiltrators jeopardize Assam’s political future. Following his statement, AMSU President Rezaul Karim Sarkar accused the Chief Minister of “communalising” migration issues for electoral gain. Opposition parties including Congress have echoed the charge.
Rejecting these allegations, Dutta reiterated that the BJP’s measures—particularly eviction drives against “illegal encroachers”—are necessary to counter what he termed the “sinister inter-community political migration of Miya Muslims.”
