New Delhi, August 22 (H.S.) : Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios has officially pulled out of the US Open 2025, marking the third consecutive year he will miss the season’s final Grand Slam. Tournament organizers confirmed his withdrawal on Thursday.

The 30-year-old has been plagued by recurring injuries to his foot, knee, and wrist, which have devastated his playing schedule in recent years. This season alone, Kyrgios has managed to contest only five singles matches, losing four of them.

Kyrgios’ career-best year came in 2022, when he reached the Wimbledon final and advanced to the US Open quarterfinals in New York. But ever since, his progress has been repeatedly derailed by injuries. He played only one match in 2023, skipped the entire 2024 season, and this year has featured in just a handful of matches—his last singles appearance coming in March at the Miami Open, where he fell in the second round.

With Kyrgios stepping aside, a “lucky loser” from the qualifying draw will be granted a spot in the men’s main draw. The US Open singles competitions are set to begin in New York this Sunday.
