New Delhi, August 13 (HS): The tennis world is abuzz with excitement as Swiss maestro Roger Federer prepares to step back onto the court at the 2025 Shanghai Masters — his first appearance at the tournament since 2017. The 20-time Grand Slam champion has confirmed that he will headline the “Roger & Friends” celebrity doubles event on October 10 at the iconic Qizhong Stadium.

In a video released by the tournament organizers, Federer said, “Hello, I’m Roger, and I’m thrilled to be returning to Qizhong Stadium in Shanghai for the Rolex Shanghai Masters. Shanghai has always held a special place in my heart, with its incredible fans, unforgettable memories, and pure love for the game.”

The star-studded exhibition will feature some of Asia’s most popular personalities — celebrated Chinese actor Wu Lei, world-famous martial artist and actor Donnie Yen, and former world No. 3 doubles player and two-time Grand Slam doubles champion Zheng Jie.

While this will be an exhibition event and not part of the official ATP Tour, it marks a rare opportunity for fans to witness Federer’s artistry once again on the court. His last competitive appearance in Shanghai saw him lift the Masters trophy in 2017, adding to his glittering résumé before bidding farewell to professional tennis in 2022 after an illustrious 24-year career.

The 2025 Shanghai Masters runs from September 30 to October 13, with Federer’s celebrity doubles match expected to be one of the most electrifying highlights — blending sport, glamour, and nostalgia in a celebration of one of tennis’s greatest icons.
