Hojai (Assam), 01 August (HS): In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Lumding and Lanka Police on Friday seized a large consignment of heroin during a joint operation near the New Basti area of the Lumding Reserved Forest along the National Highway.
According to police sources, a luxury vehicle (AS-01-DT-9634) was intercepted in the early hours of the morning, and 24 soap cases filled with heroin were recovered from it. The vehicle was reportedly en route from Sribhumi towards the Nilbagan area in Hojai district.
Three individuals have been arrested in connection with the seizure — Taj Uddin of Morajhar in Hojai district, Sabir Hussain of Dabaka, and Rashmita Begum of Udali.
The drug consignment was caught during routine checking at a police checkpoint under Udali Police Outpost. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act and police have launched an investigation to trace the origin of the consignment and the network behind it.
