Chennai, 8 July (H.S.) : In a bid to galvanize support ahead of the 2026 assembly polls, AIADMK chief Edappadi Palaniswami launched a scathing attack on the ruling DMK government in Tamil Nadu. Addressing a massive crowd in Mettupalayam near Coimbatore, Palaniswami accused the DMK of curtailing schemes launched by his party and failing to fulfill its poll promises. He claimed that only 15% of the DMK's 522 poll promises have been implemented so far.
Palaniswami defended the AIADMK's alliance with the BJP, pointing out that the DMK had previously allied with the BJP in 1999 and 2001. He criticized the DMK for hypocrisy, saying that the party labels the BJP as fascist only when it suits their interests. The AIADMK chief also slammed the DMK for increasing electricity charges and property tax, while law and order in the state have allegedly deteriorated.
The AIADMK leader expressed confidence that more parties will join their alliance, which he described as strong and formed to achieve a massive win in the 2026 assembly polls. He also hit out at the DMK's first family, accusing them of aiming to share power and loot. Palaniswami's remarks were part of his statewide poll campaign ‘Makkalai Kappom, Thamizhagathai Meetpom’, which kicked off with a three-kilometer road show.
