New Delhi, July 4(HS): President Droupadi Murmu unveiled the trophies for the Durand Cup Tournament 2025 at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Center and emphasized the significance of sports in fostering discipline, determination, and team spirit. She highlighted sports' unique ability to unite people, regions, and countries, noting that national pride surges when the tricolor is raised at international events.

The President recognized the strong attachment Indians have to football, viewing it as a passion rather than mere entertainment, embodying strategy, endurance, and collaboration. Events like the Durand Cup not only promote the spirit of the game but also develop future football talent. She praised the armed forces for their crucial role in sustaining the tradition of the Durand Cup, Asia's oldest football tournament, which began in 1888.
