New Delhi, July 4(HS): Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate the 'Bhoomi Pujan' and lay the foundation stone of the first national level cooperative university, Tribhuvan Sahkari University (TSU), in Anand, Gujarat, on July 5, 2025. The ceremony will be attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel, Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary, Union Ministers Krishan Pal Gurjar and Muralidhar Mohol, along with several other dignitaries. This university, established under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aims to enhance capacity building in the cooperative sector, promoting the vision of ‘Sahkar se Samriddhi’.

The TSU will represent a significant advancement towards integrating cooperation, innovation, and employment. Additionally, Amit Shah will join the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” tree plantation campaign, fostering environmental responsibility inspired by Modi's leadership. He will also unveil an educational module from NCERT focusing on cooperation principles for school students.

The establishment of the “Tribhuvan” Cooperative University is designed to address the professional training and manpower needs of the growing cooperative sector. It promises specialized education and research in cooperative management, finance, law, and rural development, aiming to empower grassroots cooperative institutions through innovation and best practices. The university's academic structure will align with the National Education Policy 2020, offering flexible, multidisciplinary programs including PhD, managerial degrees, diplomas, and certificates, while establishing a network to maintain quality standards in cooperative education.

Over the next four years, TSU intends to connect with over 200 existing cooperative institutions to meet the skill development needs of approximately 40 lakh cooperative personnel and 80 lakh board members in India. The university will also develop a robust pool of educators through PhD programs in cooperative studies, addressing the current shortage of qualified teachers. A dedicated research and development council will be established to promote innovation and affordable technologies in cooperatives, fostering collaboration with national and international institutions to adopt best practices.
