Kamrup (Assam), 31 July (HS): Bangladesh High Commissioner M. Ariyaz Hamidullah today visited Shuvalkuchi, popularly known as the silk city of Assam, and appreciated its vibrant handloom industry. Accompanied by Additional High Commissioner Ruhul Hamin, he explored various handloom enterprises and interacted with local artisans.

During the visit, the High Commissioner toured the Shuvalkuchi Textile Park and the Textile Crafts Museum. He was seen making a video call to his wife, showcasing the exquisite jute and Moonga silk garments produced in the region. Later, he purchased Moonga silk clothing for her.

Expressing admiration for the craftsmanship, the High Commissioner highlighted the deep cultural and traditional ties between Assam and Bangladesh. He described the Brahmaputra River as a symbol of unity between the two regions.

The dignitaries were warmly welcomed with traditional music, the ceremonial Phoolam Gamocha, and songs of Bhupen Hazarika, reflecting the rich Assamese hospitality.
