Cachar, 26 July (HS): A huge quantity of beer was recovered from a truck during a special check conducted near Palapool under the jurisdiction of Lakhipur Police Station in Cachar district of Assam. Two people were arrested in this connection.

A statement issued by the Cachar District Superintendent of Police on Saturday said that a container truck (AS-01RC-0153) was stopped for investigation. The truck was headed towards Jiribam in Manipur. During the search conducted in the vehicle, a huge quantity of Arunachali liquor was recovered secretly covered and hidden under the cartons of mini noodles.

During the search conducted in the presence of independent witnesses, 120 cartons of Kingfisher beer (24 cans of beer in each carton), 370 cartons of Old Monk Premium beer (24 beers in each carton), 530 cartons of mini noodles (60 packets in each carton) were recovered.

All the excise items were to be manufactured and sold only in Arunachal Pradesh. Two persons named Subir Kumar and Akshay Kumar (residents of Motihari, Bihar) have been arrested in this connection. Further legal action is being initiated.
