New Delhi, July 25(HS): UP Warriorz have appointed Abhishek Nayar as the new head coach ahead of Season 4 of the Women's Premier League (WPL). Nayar, a prominent figure in Indian cricket, previously served as an assistant coach for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), contributing to their 2024 IPL title win, and was part of the coaching staff that helped India clinch the Champions Trophy this year.

The announcement, made in a creative video featuring comedian Zakir Khan, took place at Nayar's alma mater, Bombay Scottish. Nayar, a former Indian all-rounder and domestic cricket star for Mumbai, is renowned for his ability to nurture young talent and elevate seasoned players. He has prior ties with UP Warriorz, having participated in their off-season training camps. His hiring is aimed at reinforcing the team's preparations.

Nayar's coaching success at KKR is notable, having worked closely with players like Shubman Gill and Rinku Singh, and he also contributed as assistant coach for the Indian men's team, where he was credited by KL Rahul for aiding his T20 comeback. Nair expressed enthusiasm for his new role, aiming to build a strong team and pursue the franchise's first title.

Jinisha Sharma, Director of Capri Sports, emphasized their ambition to elevate team performance under Nair’s leadership, while Kshemal Waingankar, COO of UP Warriorz, praised Nayar as one of cricket's finest minds, expressing confidence in his vision and the team's potential to create memorable moments for fans.
