Paris, July 25(HS): French President Emmanuel Macron announced that France will recognize the state of Palestine officially in September, during the UN General Assembly. This recognition follows a trend, as over 140 UN member countries have already acknowledged Palestine. Amid Israel's military operations in Gaza, Macron emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire to protect civilian lives, the release of hostages, and humanitarian aid. He called for Hamas's demilitarization and Gaza's reconstruction.

Despite his previous support for Israel following the October 7 attacks, Macron has raised concerns over Israel's military actions that harm civilians and exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. India's Permanent Representative also highlighted the inadequacy of a temporary ceasefire in addressing the dire situation in Gaza.
