Kolkata, 22 July (H.S.) -
Panic spread in South Kolkata on Tuesday morning after a bloodied body of a young man was found lying on the footpath along the city’s prominent Sarat Bose Road. The deceased has been identified as Sudhir Giri, aged 25.
According to police sources, local residents first spotted Sudhir lying in a pool of blood on the sidewalk and immediately alerted authorities. A team from Tollygunge Police Station arrived at the scene and began a preliminary investigation.
During the initial inspection, police recovered a large stone from near the body, raising suspicions that the victim may have been attacked with it. Officials confirmed that Sudhir had sustained two injury marks on his body, although the exact cause of death remains undetermined.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain whether the injuries were inflicted during an assault or if there was another cause behind the death. Police have not ruled out foul play, and all possible angles are being investigated.
Officers are also reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area to gather more clues.
