Mumbai, 15 July (HS):

The first e-water taxi in the country is set to be introduced in Mumbai on

August 1. The services will be available between the Gateway of India and JNPT.

The water taxi will reduce travel time to the Mumbai’s New Airport, which is expected

to be operational from September this year.

The Maharashtra

Government had planned to introduce water taxis. Accordingly, the facility

will be available from the Gateway of India to JNPT and the Domestic Cruise Terminus to

JNPT. The services will be extended to Belapur, Gharpuri and Mandva in phases.

The 13.27 X 3.05

meter taxi will have a seating capacity of 24 travellers, and can be operated at

a speed of 14 nautical miles per hour. The battery of 64 KW, once charged will

can be used for four hours. The taxis are eco-friendly, time-saving, and

cheaper.
