Guwahati, 9 June (HS): On the occasion of Bhupen Hazarika's birth centenary, the state government is taking many cultural and educational initiatives. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the Reserve Bank of India will issue a special coin in memory of Bhupen Hazarika. Also, a book based on his life has also been published, written by senior journalist and writer Anuradha Sharma Pujari.

This book will be translated into 23 languages of India and will be made available in libraries across the country. Apart from this, a target has been set to supply 10-12 lakh books to every household in Assam so that the new generation can know the life and work of Bhupen Hazarika. Special efforts will also be made for research on his folk music in Banaras Hindu University.--------
