Guwahati, 24 June (HS): The Assam government has recently issued a final delimitation order for 81 villages included in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). This move is considered an important milestone towards the administrative reorganization of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC).
This final order approved by the Governor was preceded by a detailed consultation process, in which suggestions, objections and comments were invited from various parties including political parties, social organizations and citizens.
These villages were included in the BTR through notifications issued by the Bodoland Welfare Department on December 31, 2022 (Notice No. E-233475/272), November 6, 2023 (E-233475/303), and September 21, 2024 (E-233475/387), respectively.
Under Rule 3(2) of the Bodoland Territorial Council (Elections) Rules, 2004, a designated authority was entrusted with the responsibility of carrying out the demarcation process on June 3, 2025 (Notice No. E-610598/125). Subsequently, a draft demarcation order was issued on June 5, 2025 (Notice No. ACS/LW/SEED/COOP/CA/04-A/2025/03).
Deputy commissioners of Udalguri, Tamulpur, Baksa, Sonitpur, Nalbari, Darang and Biswanath districts were directed to publicise the draft locally and prepare a detailed report based on the feedback received and send it to the government.
After evaluating all the suggestions and objections received, the final demarcation order has now been published, clearly indicating the inclusion of 81 villages in various constituencies under BTC. Details of these revised boundaries are shown in Appendix-A of the order.
This decision is expected to improve administrative efficiency and give impetus to governance and development schemes in the newly added areas in BTR.
