
Guwahati, 20 June (HS): DD News Assam on Friday organized a one-day 'Stringers Orientation Conference' at its office premises in Guwahati. Its objective was to make the newly-nominated district correspondents (stringers) aware of the editorial guidelines, operating process and their role in public service broadcasting.
Assam Director General of Police Harmeet Singh attended the conference as the chief guest. Interacting with the participants in a special session on 'Communication nuances of law and order reporting', he emphasized the importance of responsible, sensitive and fact-based reporting.
The DGP said, The role of media is extremely important in maintaining social harmony and strengthening public confidence, especially in tense situations. DD News reporters are frontline public communicators—they should exercise utmost care and integrity in broadcasting news.
He also cautioned to avoid the race of sensational reporting and give priority to verifying facts. In an open dialogue with the reporters, he discussed the challenges of real-time reporting and appealed to maintain ethics in journalism.
On this occasion, DD News Director General Priya Kumar congratulated the new stringers through a special video message and said, “The role of our reporters is like the backbone in reliable reporting of rural and remote areas. Their main task will be to bring the stories of North-East India to the national platform.”
During the conference, sessions on various technical and editorial topics were taken by senior officials of DD News Assam and Doordarshan Kendra (DDK) Guwahati. These included field reporting, camera operation, assignment protocol, administrative process and billing system.
DD News Assam has established itself as a reliable and responsible public broadcasting channel in North-East India. The channel has given prominence to issues of national importance, human stories from remote areas, cultural heritage and government initiatives. Its role has also been remarkable in reporting natural disasters, events like G20 and policy decisions.
DD News Assam has also achieved tremendous success on the digital medium - the channel has received more than 34 crore views in the last seven months. There are 3.43 lakh followers on YouTube, 1.67 lakh followers on Instagram and more than 98,000 followers on Facebook. This achievement has been possible on the strength of people-centric news, quick updates and attractive digital presentations. --------------
