AJP leader demands dismantling of Ronga river project

Dibrugarh, 2 June (HS): Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) President Lurinjyoti Gogoi has reacted sharply to the horrific flood situation caused by the Ronganadi project. He said that the common people are facing great difficulties due to the sudden flood caused by this project. In many areas, people are not able to even leave their homes and there has been huge damage.

Gogoi said that this is the result of the drainage of water from only a 405 MW hydroelectric project and if so much damage has been caused by it, then if water is released from the Suwansiri hydroelectric project which has five times more capacity, then its effect will be even more horrific. He strongly opposed the construction of a dam on the river and said that it could prove disastrous for the lives of the people.

He alleged that the people who had earlier agitated and shed tears against the river dam are today supporting such anti-people projects by becoming representatives of the state and central government. Gogoi said this scene of destruction of life and property of the common public should not be acceptable to the state.
