Kolkata, 14 June (H.S.)
The southwest monsoon is expected to arrive in south Bengal between June 16 and 18, 2025, later than its usual date of June 10, said a Met official.
Notably, North Bengal saw an early monsoon onset on May 29, ahead of its typical June 5 arrival.
A cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal is likely to drive the monsoon into south Bengal, with a week-long rainy spell forecast. Heavy rain is predicted in districts like South 24-Parganas, East and West Midnapore on Monday; East and West Burdwan, Bankura, Purulia, Jhargram, and South 24-Parganas on Tuesday; and Birbhum, West Burdwan, Purulia, and Murshidabad on Wednesday, he said.
While Calcutta isn’t listed for heavy rain, nearby heavy rainfall in South 24-Parganas could affect parts of the city. Light rain is expected in Calcutta on Saturday and Sunday, with increased intensity from Monday. North Bengal will likely see rain until June 15 and again on June 18-19. On Friday, Calcutta had partly cloudy skies, with a high of just over 35°C, typical for mid-June.
