Navadwip, 14 June (H.S.)
Illegal filling of pond is going on in Kutirpada of Malanchapada of Navadwip. The area is located under ward number 16 of the municipality. Local residents alleged that the banks of a pond have been filled. The pond of Kutirpada, located on the left side of the road going from Malanchapada to Srirampur Road, adjacent to Bishnupriya Halt Station of Navadwip, is very old. Once fish farming was done in this pond. During monsoon, excess rain water from all the surrounding areas used to fall into that pond. Now it is being filled. Local residents are not ready to say anything about this due to fear. According to local sources, the road leading to the pond is six to seven feet wide. Once or twice when the tractor tried to enter that road, the local people stopped it. It is alleged that the administration is not taking any action even after knowing everything. On Saturday, local people told that the pond is being filled for a long time. A resident of Ambagan Kutirpada said that the water of this pond is used by the people of the village. We want that the pond should be prevented from filling up. Local councillor Nitaichandra Das said, As far as I know, the owner of this pond is a resident of ward number one of the municipality. However, I do not know who is filling the pond. But, it is heard that it will take time to fill the pond like this. There is a garden next to the pond. It is heard from the local people that tractors are being taken from his garden and soil is being dumped in the pond. I am also seeking cooperation from the administration, so that the pond can be stopped from filling to save the environment. Many administrative officials have also been informed about the matter. I have also verbally informed the chairman on Friday. Somdeep Chakraborty, Revenue Inspector of Nabadwip Block Land and Land Reforms Department (Nabadwip Municipality), said, I went to the spot. These activities are being carried out early in the morning. Putting soil in the pond has just started. I have forbidden filling of the pond. Immediate action will be taken. We are keeping an eye on the matter. Appropriate action will be taken against those who are doing such work. Krishnanagar Sadar Sub-Divisional Magistrate Sharadwati Chaudhary said, Appropriate action will be taken after seeing the report of BLRO.
