Ballia,

01 June (HS): According to authorities on Sunday, a gang of males allegedly

used sticks and rods to beat a Dalit family who were having a wedding ceremony in

a venue in Rasra, Uttar Pradesh. Police reported that two people were gravely

hurt in the Friday event.

According

to the FIR filed in the case, the attackers allegedly asked, How can you

hold a wedding in a hall when you're from a Dalit community? In this

regard, no arrests have been made thus far. A gang of about 20 people, armed

with sticks and rods, invaded Swayamvar Marriage Hall at around 10.30 p.m. and

attacked individuals having a wedding there, according to the FIR, which was

based on a complaint made by Raghvendra Gautam, one of the victim's brothers.

Aman

Sahni, Deepak Sahni, Rahul, and Akhilesh led the group, he claimed. According to the complainant, there were

15–20 additional unnamed residents of the Mallah Toli neighborhood. The accused

allegedly launched a assault after allegedly using caste-based

epithets and protesting that the wedding was being hosted in a marriage hall,

according to the FIR. Ajay Kumar and Manan Kant, two of Gautam's relatives,

were gravely hurt in the assault. A case has been filed under the pertinent BNS

sections and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of

Atrocities) Act provisions in response to the complaint. According

to Vipin Singh, the in-charge of the Rasra Police Station, an inquiry is in

progress.
