New Delhi/Jammu, 9 May (H.S.): A blackout has been enforced in Jammu and Kashmir amidst ongoing gunfire from Pakistan. Jammu and Kashmir police have urged residents to adhere to blackout protocols and respond to sirens due to escalating tensions.
Following this, business activities in Jammu city were suspended for safety. Recent gunfire from Pakistan has caused damage to homes in Kupwara, Poonch, and Rajouri. In a series of drone and missile strikes, Pakistan targeted various locations in Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan, although the majority of these attacks were intercepted by India’s advanced air defense systems, specifically the S-400, resulting in limited damage.
These Pakistani strikes are believed to be a retort to India’s Operation Sindoor, aimed at terrorist camps in Pakistan following a deadly attack that killed 26 tourists in Kashmir. The situation remains precarious, with calls for international restraint and diplomatic efforts to avert further conflict. Colonel Sophia Qureshi noted that the Indian Army downed many of the 300 to 400 drones used in the attacks.
