Imphal, 9 May (HS): Security forces took strong action against insurgent organizations and extortion network in Manipur and arrested the insurgents.
Police said on Friday that based on intelligence input, search and combing operations were conducted in Imphal, Thoubal, Bishnupur and surrounding areas.
Four rebels of the banned KCP (MFL) outfit- Ningthoujam Amitra Singh, Fairembam Mangalmanganba Meitei, Chesba Umar Ali and Yumnam Angaosana Singh were arrested from Lamding Khumanthem Leikai in Thoubal district. It is alleged that these people were involved in incidents like extortion, kidnapping and threatening government offices and financial institutions. A country-made 9 mm pistol, three live cartridges, a grenade, mobile phone and SIM card were recovered from them.
Meanwhile, another KCP (Noyan-MFL) outfit Yumnam Bidyasagar Meitei was arrested from Sekmai Bazar in Imphal West district.
In a separate operation, police rescued kidnap victim Md. Sadam Hussain from Lilong Bridge (NH-102) and arrested three UNLF (P) cadres – Laishram Amarjit Singh, Khumanthem Motilal Singh and Yumnam Hitler Meitei. A 9 mm pistol, mobile phones, cash, Aadhaar cards and a four-wheeler were recovered from the accused.
Besides, KCP (PWG) members Sagolsem Bobo Meitei from near Khuman Lampak Sports Complex and Khundrakpam Naresh Singh from Bishnupur were arrested who were allegedly involved in extortion activities.
Another KCP (Noyan) member Heidam Aboy Singh from Nongren Maning Leikai in Imphal East was also arrested from his house. A mobile phone was seized from him.
In a special state-wide drive to curb vehicle crimes, police recovered three stolen vehicles and removed blackened glasses from 76 vehicles.
This action of security agencies is being considered an important step towards restoring peace in the state and weakening the militant network.
