Uttarkashi, May 8 (HS): A helicopter carrying pilgrims to Gangotri Dham met with an accident near Ganganani. It is being reported that seven people were on board the helicopter. The incident is said to have occurred on Thursday at around 8:45 AM. The helicopter carrying pilgrims to Gangotri crashed beyond Ganganani.
Meanwhile, upon receiving information about the incident, the district disaster management team has set off for the site, and a rescue operation is underway.
The rescue operation involves the police, force, disaster management quick response team (QRT), Team 108 ambulance vehicles, the tehsildar of Bhatwadi, BDO of Bhatwadi, and the revenue team.
The helicopter, piloted by Capt. Robin Singh, took off from Sahastradhara helipad en route to Kharsali but crashed near Gangnani in Uttarkashi.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his grief on social media, calling the incident extremely sad news. He announced that rescue and relief teams were dispatched immediately and instructed the administration to provide all possible assistance to the injured. The CM conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families, hoping that the deceased find peace. He reassured the public that he was in constant contact with officials and closely monitoring the situation, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation into the tragic accident.
