Guwahati, 23 May (HS): Health and Family Welfare Department Minister Ashok Singhal is going to participate in a special function in the conference hall of his office located at Janata Bhawan on Friday. On this occasion, he will distribute surrogacy certificates among the applicants found eligible for the surrogacy process.
The program has been organized by the Health Department so that the process related to surrogacy can be made transparent, legal and smooth. Under the Surrogacy (rented womb) law, now any couple has to take prior approval from the Health Department to adopt this process. Certificates will be issued under the same process.
It is worth mentioning that the state government has also started a helpdesk and counseling system to increase awareness about surrogacy and provide proper guidance to interested couples. Through this initiative, the government wants to ensure that the surrogacy law is followed properly and there is no possibility of any kind of exploitation in it.
Minister Singhal has earlier said that the state government is committed to regulating surrogacy while protecting the rights of women and children. Today's program is being considered an important step in this direction.
