The storm that came on Wednesday evening wreaked havoc in a large area of Chuchura in Hooghly district. At some places, trees fell on the road, while at some places trees were reported to have fallen on houses. During the storm, a tree fell on a person and he was seriously injured. He was admitted to Chuchura Imambara Hospital.

In fact, heavy rain suddenly started on Wednesday evening. Trees fell in Shyambabur Ghat, Sandeshwartala and Badi Masjid area in Bandel of Chuchura. During the storm, a person had taken shelter in a shop at Shyambabu Ghat. A banyan tree fell on the shop and he was seriously injured.

Local resident Arup Kumar Dhar said, There was a big banyan tree in front of his house. On Wednesday, one of its branches broke in strong winds. A person was buried under it. He suffered serious injuries on his legs, ribs and back.

On the other hand, an ancient tree fell on a house adjacent to the mosque in Bandel Badi Masjid area of Ward No. 4 of Chunchura Municipality. There were two women in that room. They got trapped inside the house.

Local councillor Saraswati Pal reached the spot. The fire department was informed. The women were rescued by breaking the window of the house. Fire officer Soumen Das said, Two women got trapped in the fallen branches of the tree. The branch of the tree was entangled with the electric wire. However, both were rescued safely. Meanwhile, due to this disaster, power supply was disrupted in many areas of Chunchura city.
