New Delhi, May 16 (HS): The Supreme Court has approved the Rajasthan government's proposal to develop two wetlands over an area of approximately 22 hectares around the lake. The approval was granted by a bench headed by Justice A.S. Oka, accepting the report from the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI).

During the hearing, the state government stated that there is a need to create walkways within the perimeter of Ana Sagar Lake. Action has been taken against encroachments around the lake. Earlier, on April 7, during the hearing, the court directed the state government to demolish or relocate the Seven Wonders built near Ana Sagar Lake within a month.

During the proceedings, the Supreme Court asked the Rajasthan government whether more wetlands could be developed in Ajmer. In fact, in 2023, the NGT ordered the removal of illegal constructions around Ana Sagar Lake. The Rajasthan government has challenged this order in the Supreme Court.
