Chennai, 9 April (H.S.): The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) and IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation have partnered with California-based Ziroh Labs to establish a Centre of AI Research (COAIR) aimed at addressing India's compute accessibility challenges. The COAIR will focus on developing practical and efficient AI solutions, particularly for CPU and edge device inferencing.
The partnership was marked by the unveiling of 'Kompact AI,' an AI platform developed by Ziroh Labs that enables the building and deployment of foundational models using CPUs without requiring expensive GPUs. This innovation aligns with India's AI Mission, AI for All, and has the potential to democratize AI development.
Under ki features are included = Enables AI model development and deployment on CPUs, eliminating the need for costly GPUs. Optimized AI models, including DeepSeek, Qwen, and Llama, for efficient execution on CPUs. Operates without constant internet connectivity, making it suitable for deployment in remote areas.
The COAIR will focus on developing AI solutions that are accessible, scalable, and cost-effective. The partnership between IIT Madras and Ziroh Labs is expected to drive innovation in AI research and development, with potential applications in various industries, including mobility.
In a related development, IIT Madras has invited submissions for a 20-second video showcasing innovative ideas on AI in mobility. The top 20 videos will be showcased at the MInT Mobility Summit 2025, scheduled for April 11-12.
The establishment of the COAIR and the development of Kompact AI are significant steps towards advancing AI research and development in India. The partnership between IIT Madras and Ziroh Labs has the potential to drive innovation and create new opportunities for AI applications in various industries.
