New Delhi, April 4 (H.S.): The Delhi High Court has imposed a fine of ₹25,000 on BJP leader Shazia Ilmi for hiding facts in a defamation petition filed against journalist Rajdeep Sardesai. Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora issued this order.
Shazia Ilmi referenced a video posted on X by Rajdeep Sardesai in her petition to the High Court, which showed Shazia Ilmi leaving the channel's show. The High Court stated in its verdict that the petitioner concealed information related to two tweets concerning the tweet on which the petition was filed. These two tweets were part of the same tweet. Consequently, the High Court fined Shazia Ilmi ₹25,000 and directed that the amount be deposited in the account of the Delhi High Court Bar Clerk Association within three weeks.
The High Court accepted Shazia Ilmi's request to remove an 18-second video showing her in a dispute with the video journalist. The court remarked that continuing to record after Shazia Ilmi left the show violated her privacy. However, the court dismissed Shazia Ilmi's allegation that her dignity was harmed by the video journalist's actions. The court stated that Shazia Ilmi's claim that the video journalist had a distorted mindset was incorrect. The High Court also rejected Shazia Ilmi's assertion that the video posted by Rajdeep Sardesai was presented out of context.
