New Delhi, April 3 (HS): Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary reacted on Thursday to U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement of imposing a 26% tariff on India, stating that India is assessing the reciprocal tariff increase and its impact on the country.
The Union Minister of State made this statement at the 'First International Pension Research Conference' organized by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) in collaboration with IIM Ahmedabad at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. He said that India will review and assess the effects of the reciprocal tariffs. Pankaj Chaudhary remarked, For Trump, it's America first, but for Prime Minister Modi, it's India first. He added that we are evaluating the impact of the reciprocal duties imposed by the U.S.
The Finance Minister of State noted that the increased tariffs by the U.S. and their impact on the country are being assessed.
U.S. President Donald Trump has taken a historic step to counter the high tariffs imposed on American products globally, announcing retaliatory tariffs on about 60 countries.
