Former Junior Clerk Convicted in Bribery Case and Sentenced to Jail


Bhubaneswar, 3 April (H.S.) Sukanta Kumar Das, a former Junior Clerk at the office of the Tahasildar in Kujanga, and later a Junior Clerk at the Collectorate in Jagatsinghpur is convicted today in a bribery case. He was charged by Odisha Vigilance under Cuttack Vigilance PS Case No. 15 dated September 23, 2017, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 10,000 from a complainant. The bribe was taken in exchange for facilitating the issuance of a Record of Rights (RoR) in a lease case.

The Special Judge, Vigilance, Cuttack, convicted Sri Sukanta Kumar Das under sections 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) and 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and sentenced him to four years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine. Following the conviction, he was immediately sent to jail custody to serve his sentence.

In light of this conviction, Odisha Vigilance has announced its intention to move the competent authority for the dismissal of Sri Sukanta Kumar Das from his service, ensuring that justice is served in this case of corruption.
