Bhubaneswar, 3 April (H.S.): In a bid to escalate its attack on the BJP-led Odisha government over the growing incidents of violence against women and minor girls, the Odisha Congress has announced a statewide protest.
Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) President Bhakta Charan Das declared that the party will hold torchlight protests across all block headquarters on April 15. Additionally, rallies will be organized in all 315 blocks as part of the agitation. Das urged party workers to ensure that the demonstrations remain peaceful and non-violent.
As part of its intensified campaign, Congress will also stage a sit-in at Collector’s offices across all 35 organizational districts on April21, demanding stronger action against such crimes. To gain a better understanding of the situation, Das encouraged state leaders to spend at least five days in the blocks. Based on their observations, Congress plans to form district-level committees to address the issue more effectively.
Furthermore, the OPCC President called upon Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to establish a House Committee to investigate the alarming number of minor pregnancies in the state.
In a symbolic act of protest, Das urged the people of Odisha to wave brooms at ministers during their visits to express dissent against the government's inaction on this critical issue.
