New Delhi, April 3 (HS): Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla emphasized today that legislative drafting is crucial for effective lawmaking, advocating for clarity and simplicity in laws to ensure public understanding. He argued that well-crafted laws can decrease court cases and conserve resources.

In response to rapid global socio-economic changes, Birla insisted that lawmakers must be proficient in legislative drafting to meet societal needs and encourage meaningful debates. His comments were made during a session with 28 participants from 13 countries at the 36th International Legislative Drafting Training Program, organized by the Parliamentary Democracy Research and Training Institute (PRIDE) at Parliament House.

Highlighting India's prominence as the world's largest democracy, he noted PRIDE’s vital role in training legislative bodies worldwide. The program runs from March 26 to April 22, 2025, as part of the ITEC scheme by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs. It covers topics such as the Indian Constitution, legislative processes, and new criminal laws. Participants will also engage with the Ministry of Law and Justice, observe parliamentary proceedings, and visit the Delhi Judicial Academy.
