Guwahati, 25 April (HS): In a sweeping action against pro-Pakistan propaganda, Assam Police has detained six individuals from various districts for allegedly expressing sympathy or support for Pakistan on social media in the wake of the Pahalgam terror incident.
The arrests, spread across Hailakandi, Silchar, Morigaon, Nagon, and Sivasagar, form part of a larger crackdown aimed at identifying and penalizing those promoting narratives favoring Pakistan.
Among those apprehended are:
Md. Jabir Hussain (Hailakandi), Md. A.K. Bahauddin and Md. Javed Mazumder (Silchar), Md. Mahahar Mia alias Md. Mujihirul Islam (Morigaon), Md. Aminul Islam (Nagaon) and Md. Sahil Ali (Sivasagar)
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made his stance clear, asserting that the state will adopt a zero-tolerance approach towards any form of support—explicit or implied—towards Pakistan.
Police officials have indicated that further arrests may follow, with digital forensics and social media surveillance underway to trace other such instances.
